IIBI is governed by a Board of Trustees | Directors, supported by an Honorary Vice Chairman and the Director General, who are assisted by four Advisory Groups. These groups provide guidance on specialised areas, helping the Institute implement its strategy and achieve its mission.
The Chairman position is currently vacant. It was previously held by the founder, the late Mr Muazzam Ali, who passed away in May 2005.
The Director General oversees governance, ensuring the effective management of the Institute’s property, affairs, and strategic plans in line with its charitable objectives. The Director General is assisted by staff, tutors, and Advisory Group members to deliver IIBI’s programmes and services.
The Institute has four Advisory Groups whose members bring specialised knowledge and skills to support IIBI’s strategic planning, initiatives, and fundraising efforts in a voluntary capacity.

Dr M. Fahim Khan – Former Head, Training Division, Islamic Research and Training Institute, Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
[Professor Rodney Wilson who co-founded the Master’s programme in Islamic Finance at Durham University in UK and formerly served as Chairman of the IIBI Advisory Group, passed away on 11 June 2024]
