Ibn Rushd lectures were started by IIBI to honour the great Muslim scholar whose thinking integrated Islamic traditions with Greek thought.
Ibn Rushd born in 1128 C.E. in Cordova, Islamic Spain, occupies a unique place among the authorities in Islamic jurisprudence that also governs economic transactions. The legal subject areas that he covered include sale and exchange of goods; wages, crop-sharing and speculative partnership; security for debts and insolvency. Also known in the West as Averroes, Ibn Rushd is universally acknowledged as one of the greatest philosophers of all times. He spent a major part of his later life writing commentaries on virtually all of Aristotle’s works, producing detailed and original reconstructive commentaries on Aristotle’s Metaphysics, Physics, Posterior Analytics, De Caelo, and De Anima, as well as Plato’s Republic.
